The journal is also specifically interested in contemporary architecture and urban design in relation to social and cultural history, geography, politics, aesthetics, technology, and conservation. Spanning across cultures and disciplines, IJIA seeks to analyze and explain issues related to the built environment throughout the regions covered. The cross-cultural and interdisciplinary nature of this journal will significantly contribute to the knowledge in this field.

The Alexandria Bombardment of 1882 Photograph Album digital collection was originally compiled by Italian photographer Luigi Fiorillo. This unique resource documents the British naval attack on 'Urabi Pasha's nationalists, who revolted against Taufik Pasha, the Khedive of Egypt, from 1879 to 1882. The images trace the development of episode from the arrival of the British fleet to the destruction of the emerging downtown district. Further, the photographs show the artillery and forts used by the resistance. The album also features portraits of the key players in the bombardment, including 'Urabi Pasha, Khedive Taufik, Admiral Seymour, and Sir Wolseley.

e-Ktobe: Manuscrits Syriaques

e-Ktobe: Manuscrits Syriaques

You will find a data base on Syriac manuscripts. It will enable any researcher to make a request on texts, authors and codicological elements for all manuscripts in the world. So thanks to this data-base you can ask some material details, and also make a request about one person connected with the making of the Syriac manuscript (copyist, restorer, sponsor, ...).

This data-base is in progress. Made in the framework of the ANR programm called SYRAB this Web site is under the scientific responsability of André Binggeli and Muriel Debié (CNRS, IRHT, section grecque et Proche-Orient chrétien) Françoise Briquel-Chatonnet and Alain Desreumaux (CNRS, UMR 8167) and fed by Emilie Villey and Flavia Ruani.

TAARII Newsletter: The American Academic Research Institute in Iraq

The American Academic Research Institute in Iraq (TAARII — formerly the American Association for Research in Baghdad, AARB) has been established to promote scholarly research on and in Iraq and ancient Mesopotamia. The Institute, a consortium of American universities and museums, intends to establish a multidisciplinary American scholarly research center in Iraq when conditions permit. TAARII raises funds for graduate and post-graduate fellowships for Americans to work on Iraq in as broad a range of disciplines as possible. It also has a fellowship program for Iraqi academics to aid them in carrying out research in Iraq. TAARII initiates its own research projects and fosters joint projects between American and Iraqi academics. Like similar American overseas research centers, TAARII has as its primary focus the humanities and social sciences, as well as closely related natural sciences, but it will facilitate outstanding research in any legitimate academic field.

ANNOUNCEMENT
As readers may by aware, TAARII is committed to producing and printing a bilingual newsletter in English and in Arabic. Our September 2007 issue, sadly, was printed primarily in English (with Arabic to appear on the website). We regret that, beginning with the Spring 2008 issue, our newsletter is in printed in English only. "August 15, 2012. The Department of State released today Foreign Relations of the United States, 1969–1976, Volume XXVI, Arab-Israeli Dispute, 1974–1976. The focus of this volume is the negotiations leading to the two disengagement agreements between Egypt and Israel and the one disengagement agreement between Syria and Israel. The end of the October 1973 War left the Egyptian and Israeli armies interlocked in the Sinai and Israeli and Syrian armies interlocked in the Golan Heights. This provided Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, who had taken the lead role in negotiations concerning the Arab-Israeli dispute after the October 1973 War, the opportunity to negotiate landmark agreements between Israel and two of its Arab neighbors in the months following the war. Initial discussions between Kissinger and Arab leaders began in November 1973 (coverage of this is found in Foreign Relations, 1969-1976, volume XXV, Arab-Israeli Crisis and War, 1973) and culminated in formal disengagement agreements beginning in 1974..."

http://www.csc.org.il/images/logo_center.png
This ongoing bibliographical project was launched in the year 2000 on behalf of the Center for the Study of Christianity of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Its immediate purpose is to fill the evident gap in the set of bibliographical resources and provide a convenient and easily accessible tool for the worldwide scholarly community. The ultimate goal of the project, of which the results of only the first stage are now being made available, is to assemble as much bibliographical material as possible so that eventually a comprehensive bibliography on Christianity in Palestine will become available.     more about ...

Online Comprehensive Bibliography on Syriac Christianity

 Comprehensive Bibliography on Syriac Christianity
http://www.csc.org.il/images/logo_center.png
It was during the sixteenth century in Renaissance Europe that, as a result of the efforts of the Catholic and Protestant scholars of the New Testament, Syriac studies became a part of European intellectual life. Since then, the number of scholarly publications on various matters related to the history, culture and religious life of Syriac-speaking Christians has only increased. As these publications are in a variety of languages, and many of them scattered through journals and periodicals belonging to various academic fields, it is often difficult to obtain precise information on what has already been published on one or another aspect of Syriac Christianity. Our project aims to fill the evident gap in the bibliographical resources and provide a convenient and easily accessible tool for the worldwide scholarly community. The ultimate goal of this project is to create and launch an on-line database on Syriac Christianity that will be updated on a regular basis and available free of charge to the international scholarly community.     more about ...

Open Access Manuscripts Collection: SLUB Dresden

"Saxon State and University Library Dresden (SLUB) manuscript collection contains over 448 Islamic manuscripts (196 Ottoman, 184 Arabic, 68 Persian). Following clashes with the Ottomans in the Baltic region, these manuscripts arrived in Europe and were acquired in the 18th and 19th centuries from collections of nobility and scholarly estates. In the 19th century, a large number of Tibetan (438) and Mongolian (58) manuscripts were purchased. Other Oriental manuscripts, i.e. Chinese (18), Japanese (3), Indonesian (9), Sanskrit (1), Hebraic (10) and Ethiopian (4), were bestowed upon the library by private persons.

With the exception of a few recent acquisitions, most of the Islamic manuscripts are registered in the "Catalogus codicum manuscriptorum orientalium Bibliothecae Regiae Dresdensis", which was published in Leipzig in 1831 by the Orientalist Heinrich Leberecht Fleischer (1801-1888). This index is available digitally at diglib.hab.de/wdb.php.
A complete list of the Tibetan, Mongolian, Chinese, Hebraic, and Ethiopian manuscripts as well as a partial list of the Indonesian manuscripts can be found in the "Verzeichnis der orientalischen Handschriften in Deutschland" (Index of Oriental Manuscripts in Germany, VOHD; Wiesbaden / Stuttgart 1961ff.)."

The Palestinian institution for cultural landscape studies (Al-Mashhad) was established in 2001, as a Palestinian non governmental and non profit institution. The areas of our fieldwork and study include: landscape, environment, archaeology, conservation and other related fields.

Our aims are based on:
1. The maintenance of Palestinian cultural heritage, developing the local community capabilities to create long-term and sustainable management strategies over the cultural heritage, through the implementation of multidisciplinary approaches.
2. The re-conceptualization of the practice of archaeology, in Palestine in particular and the Eastern Mediterranean region in general, into one that is unbiased, unselective and unattached to the political agendas.
3. The essential implementation process of the spatial, regional and urban planning that enables the best methods of management, protection and preservation of sites, monuments, traditional towns and villages.
4. Creating an educational environment for the future professionals in the field through trainings, lectures, debates, capacity building in preparing reports and ensuring dissemination.

The major themes of this website are devoted to provide the reader with a compendious description of the PICLS, with emphasis on our main fields of interest such as landscape, conservation geography and cartography etc. We are looking forward to receiving reader's feedback through the email address indicated. All opinions are welcome as well as proposals for collaboration or volunteering in future projects, whether those projects are theoretical or fieldwork activities.
