 La rivista de arablit è una rivista on line open access a periodicità semestrale edita dall’ Istituto per l’ Oriente C. A. Nallino di Roma e diretta da Isabella Camera d’Afflitto, professore ordinario di Letteratura Araba Moderna e Contemporanea presso lʼ Istituto Italiano di Studi Orientali - ISO della Sapienza Università di Roma.

Scopo della rivista è pubblicare, grazie al contributo di studiosi italiani e stranieri, lavori di ricerca originali e di qualità sulla letteratura e cultura araba, dagli inizi dell’epoca moderna fino ai tempi più recenti. Pensata per offrire uno spazio di approfondimento accademico, La rivista di Arablit si augura di apportare un valido contributo al dibattito scientifico in atto tra gli addetti ai lavori, ma anche di poter raggiungere un maggior numero di lettori interessati alla letteratura e cultura araba.

La rivista di Arablit adotta il sistema di valutazione double blind peer review.

British Library Online Catalogue of Illuminated Manuscripts

Welcome to the Online Catalogue of Illuminated Manuscripts, a searchable database of some of the western illuminated manuscripts in the British Library. The Library holds one of the richest collections of medieval and renaissance manuscripts in the world, and aims to provide access to images and information about its manuscripts to students, scholars, and the general public. 

The Catalogue includes descriptions and images of western manuscripts with pictorial and decorative embellishments, from fully painted miniatures to decorated initials. Because it includes such a wide range of material, it serves as a useful resource for those working in a variety of disciplines. In order to maximize the number of images, the Catalogue includes digital scans of existing slides as well newly-commissioned digital images. As a result, the image quality can vary.

Manuscripts included in the Catalogue:
The illuminated manuscripts in the following collections are included in the Catalogue: Additional, Arundel; Burney; Egerton; Hargrave; Harley; Henry Davis; Hirsch; King’s; Lansdowne; Sloane; Royal; Stowe and Yates Thompson (Oriental, for Hebrew illuminated manuscripts).
 
Manuscripts in the Additional collection are currently being added to the Catalogue. At the moment they consist primarily of around 675 illuminated miniatures cuttings and Hebrew manuscripts (see Italian illuminated cuttings and Hebrew illuminated manuscripts), and Anglo-Saxon manuscripts.

   •   perform a quick search (this searches for a word or number in all sections of each catalogue entry, including images);
   •   perform a simple search using keywords and dates;
   •   look for information about a particular manuscript if you know its collection name and manuscript number;
   •   perform an advanced search using different types or combinations of information;
   •   explore the virtual exhibitions of various aspects of the British Library's western illuminated manuscript holdings; and
   •   check the illustrated glossaries of terms.
   •   download digital images for further reuse such as in educational contexts, placing on your blog or sharing with others. Please see guidance notes on Access and Reuse.

Online Muqarnas Update

Muqarnas Volumes Available Earlier

As noted in Muqarnas 29, now available on Brill, Muqarnas volumes will be posted in the Archnet Digital Library three years after publication, rather than five, as in the past.

Muqarnas: An Annual on the Visual Cultures of the Islamic World is sponsored by the Aga Khan Program for Islamic Architecture at Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Muqarnas 29 features a subset of articles involving cross-cultural interactions between East and West as manifested in the visual culture of the region. Articles addressing this theme include "Visual Cosmopolitanism and Creative Translation: Artistic Conversations with Renaissance Italy in Mehmed II's Constantinople," by Gulru Necipoglu, and "The Bride of Trebizond: Turks And Turkmens on a Florentine Wedding Chest, circa 1460," by Cristelle Baskins. The "Notes and Sources" section highlights new research on the medieval town of Hulbuk in Central Asia.

Contributors include: Gulru Necipoglu, Cristelle Baskins, Ana Pulido-Rull, Matt D. Saba, Jasmin Badr, Mustafa Tupev, Unver Rustem, Ethem Eldem and Pierre Simeon.
