Arabian Humanities. International Journal of Archaeology and Social Sciences in the Arabian Peninsula

Arabian Humanities is the continuation of the earlier Chroniques yéménites journal, published by the French Center for Archaeology and Social Sciences in Sanaa (CEFAS) from 1993. It broadens its scope to the entire Arabian Peninsula, and is now resolutely oriented towards international research networks.

Arabian Humanities is a peer-reviewed journal. It is multilingual (articles published in French, English or Arabic, with abstracts in the two other languages), and freely available on internet.

Arabian Humanities intends, through biennial issues, to cover all areas of the humanities from prehistory to contemporary societies in the Arabian Peninsula. Constructed around a specific theme, each issue will also include independent articles and book reviews on the latest publications on the Arabian Peninsula appearing in European languages and Arabic.

Yemeni Manuscript Digitization Initiative

"The private manuscript libraries of Yemen, estimated at 50,000 codices, constitutes the largest and most important set of unexamined Arabic manuscripts in the world today. The Yemeni Manuscript Digitization Initiative presents, for the first time, access to manuscripts from three private libraries in Sanaa, Yemen, and virtually conjoins them to additional Yemeni manuscripts held by the Princeton University Library and Staatsbibliothek, Berlin. The texts in this archive were composed, copied, studied, and preserved by Zaydi scholars from the tenth century to the present. Zaydism is a leading school of Islam in Northern Yemen known for forms of rationalist theology that were abandoned in other regions. The Yemeni Manuscript Digitization Initiative is made possible by a Enriching Digital Collections Grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaf (DFG). The grant is administered by Princeton University Library and the Free University, Berlin in conjunction with the Imam Zayd ibn Ali Cultural Foundation (IZbACF) in Sanaa, Yemen. Information on this grant and related projects to preserve and disseminate the manuscripts of Yemen can be found at ymdi.uoregon.edu."

Open Access Journal: The British-Yemeni Society Journal

The British-Yemeni Society Journal

The British-Yemeni Society was inaugurated in February 1993. Its objectives are to promote friendship and understanding between the peoples of the two countries and to advance public knowledge in Britain about the Republic of Yemen, its history, geography, economy and culture.
The Society holds regular meetings and lectures and has been involved in sponsoring visits of Yemeni musicians to Britain, the recruitment of British teachers to work in Yemen, support for a medical clinic in Aden, a visit of Welsh musicians and craftsmen to Yemen, and support for publications and exhibitions.
It also provides a focus for contact between individuals of both countries for the development of cultural, commercial and humanitarian activities.
H.E. the Yemen Ambassador in London and H.E. the British Ambassador in Sana’a are Honorary Presidents.
The Society is a charity registered in the UK (No. 1027531)   and its affairs are managed by an elected Committee and Honorary Officers.
Membership is open to all who have an interest in the Republic of Yemen. The programme of activities includes six lecture meetings per year. Members also receive the Society’s annual Journal.

Chroniques yéménites

Consacrées à la péninsule Arabique et à la Corne de l’Afrique, les Chroniques yéménites sont une revue annuelle en langues française et arabe, éditée depuis 1993 par le Centre français d’archéologie et de sciences sociales de Sanaa (ministère des Affaires étrangères/CNRS). Y sont regroupés des bilans de recherche, des traductions et des bibliographies thématiques, relevant de toutes les disciplines des sciences humaines et sociales, de l’archéologie antique à la littérature contemporaine, en passant par l’économie, l’anthropologie ou la politique.
