"Ernst Emil Herzfeld (1879-1948) was a German archaeologist, philologist, geographer and historian in the field of Near Eastern Studies. A formidable figure in Central European scholarship during the early twentieth century, his major contributions include archaeological excavations at Samarra (Iraq), Pasargadae, Persepolis and Kuh-i Khwaja (Iran); architectural surveys of Damascus, Northern Syria, and Mesopotamia; mapping of remote regions in Kurdistan (Iraq and Iran); and recording and publishing architectural inscriptions in Arabic and Middle Persian.

The Ernst Herzfeld Papers housed in the Metropolitan Museum are divided between the Department of Islamic Art and the Department of Ancient Near Eastern Art. The museum’s holdings consist of several thousand items from Herzfeld's archives, including photograph negatives, photographs, original drawings and paintings, clippings, correspondence, maps, sketchbooks, notebooks, squeezes and manuscripts of scholarly work. These materials span Herzfeld’s professional career from his collegiate studies in Berlin (1899-1902) to his residence as a senior scholar at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton (1936-1944). Items document both original findings and synthetic research pertaining to sites and monuments in Iraq, Iran, Syria, Turkey, India and Egypt. While representing only part of his archive, the Metropolitan Museum's holdings are integral to understanding Herzfeld's scholarly career.

"Ottoman Diplomats is a digitization project of the research group Power in History: Centre for Political History at the University of Antwerp (UA). It offers online access to a selection of diplomatic documents from the Imperial Legation in Brussels (1849–1914).
Next to telegrams and periodic diplomatic reports by Ottoman diplomatic agents (dispatches, dépêches) in Brussels and replies and instructions by their superiors in Istanbul, the collection also contains some letters by Ottoman consuls in Belgium and by Ottoman ambassadors or ministers in other European capitals.
The letters are in French and their content is very diverse: reports dealing with Belgian and international society, politics, commerce, industry and finance, but also letters about matters of protocol, or internal issues of the Ottoman Mission."

Open Access Manuscripts Library: St. Cyril and Methodius Digital Library

"The digitalization of valuable materials from the St. St. Cyril and Methodius National Library collections started in 2006. In autumn 2007 these digital images became accessible for users through the library’s website. By the beginning of 2014 have been digitalized and included in the Digital Library nearly 330 000 files - manuscripts, old printed books, unpublished documents from the Bulgarian Historical Archive and Oriental Department, portraits and photos, graphical and cartographical editions, Bulgarian newspapers and journals from 1844 to 1944 – images and their metadata. Users could search in the Electronic archive through the specialized system DocuWare. The digitalized originals are on free access for users.
 The Digital Library is structured in several collections according to the type and the chronological scope of the included documents. The different collections are subdivided in separate sections..."
