Open Access Newspaper Archive - Persian Periodicals (Digitization Project "Translatio")

Digitization Project "Translatio"  from the Universitäts- und Landesbibliothek Bonn made available digital copies of Persian, Arabic, and Turkish periodicals.
Each title has a WorldCat record, albeit in German transliteration, with link to digitized content. For each entry there is a Wikipedia page in German, English, Persian and other languages, presumably created by the Translatio project. Wikipedia entries include references to other sources. Single volumes of the newspapers are downloadable
See also: A Chronology of Arabic, Persian and Ottoman-Turkish Periodicals

In addition to listing the individual titles on the A-Z list of historical newspapers AMIR editors are providing variant spelling of the titles to improve discovery of these archives on the web.
Suggestions/corrections are welcome as always.

22 Persian titles  - some from reprints.

New OA Journal: Ecocene: Cappadocia Journal of Environmental Humanities

"Ecocene: Cappadocia Journal of Environmental Humanities is a digital, open-access, peer-reviewed, international, and transdisciplinary journal of the Environmental Humanities. It is a biannual journal, publishing a Winter issue in December and a Summer issue in June. It aims to develop new insights and theories about the current material and conceptual challenges in the field. Since the complexities and questions raised by ecological and social changes, as well as pressures from global climatic crises, demand interrelated re-workings of humanities disciplines and social and natural sciences, the journal invites submissions that transcend disciplinary categories, allowing us to rethink and reimagine the human-nonhuman relationalities on our damaged planet to ensure a livable future. It will thus seek articles that move beyond species-centered parameters and contest anthropocentric conceptions of reality. Recognizing the relevance and value of deep time experiences of social, cultural and environmental changes, Ecocene addresses the present and future challenges facing our planet. The journal also invites new Anthropocene stories, poetry, artwork and other creative works that advance our cognitive, imaginative and ethical capabilities. The purpose of Ecocene therefore is to create a space for transdisciplinary research and new modes of knowledge in what Donna Haraway calls “collaborative” but also “competitive entanglements” of human-nonhuman worlds."

New Open Access Journal: LAMMA: A JOURNAL OF LIBYAN STUDIES

Lamma: A Journal of Libyan Studies aims to provide a forum for critically understanding the complex ideas, values, social configurations, histories, and material realities in Libya. Recognizing, and insisting on, the urgent need for such a forum, we give attention to as wide a range of disciplines, sources, and approaches as possible, foregrounding especially those which have previously received less scholarly attention. This includes, but is not limited to: anthropology, art, gender, history, linguistics, literature, music, performance studies, politics, religion, and urban studies, in addition to their intersections, their subfields, the places in between, and critical, theoretical, and postcolonial approaches thereto. Lamma is a space where these fields interact and draw from one another, and where scholars and students from inside and outside of Libya gather to redefine and reshape “Libyan Studies”. For these reasons the journal takes its name from the Arabic word lamma ‘a gathering’.

We believe that access to research is not the privilege of a few but the right of all and that knowledge production should be inclusive. Besides research articles and reviews of important publications, we are also open to including relevant translated and original literary work, and offer the journal as a platform for the publication of specialized workshop papers or guest-curated collections.

Digital Library of the Middle East

Digital Library of the Middle East
"The Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR) and Stanford Libraries today announced the release of a public, open platform for the Digital Library of the Middle East (DLME), which aims to become one of the world’s largest online archives of Middle Eastern and North African artifacts. The DLME aggregates, through an ongoing program, digital records of published materials, documents, maps, artifacts, audiovisual recordings, and more from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
An international collaborative effort under development for four years, the DLME currently brings together 127,443 digital records of materials held in museums, libraries, and archives worldwide. It also provides an array of applications, tools, and descriptions that enrich the content and facilitate browsing, search, and interpretation. The DLME is intended to serve as a resource for teachers, students, and researchers, as well as for the general public."

New OA Database: “A World Beyond: Jewish Cemeteries in Turkey 1583-1990”

The computerized database, containing 61,022 Jewish tombstones from across Turkey, is the largest academic tombstone database of its kind in the world. The fruit of the labor of numerous individuals and bodies, its primary goals are to preserve the remnants of the gradually-disappearing Jewish life in Turkey, aid scholars to paint a broader and richer picture of the past, and enable interested laypersons to search for their roots.

New OA resource: Syrian Heritage Archive Project

Until now, a general register for Syrian cultural heritage has been lacking. Several Syrian and international initiatives are working together on a compilation of the abundant research data collected over the past decades within the framework of archaeological and art-historical projects, with the content made accessible for research via a national Syrian Heritage register.

In 2013, the Museum of Islamic Art (National Museums in Berlin) and the German Archaeological Institute (DAI) started the “Project for the Establishment of a Digital Heritage Register for Syria”/“Projekt zur Erstellung digitaler Kulturgüterregister für Syrien”. This original name was soon replaced by a shorter English version: “Syrian Heritage Archive Project”, commonly abbreviated as SyrHer or SHAP. From the very beginning, the project was funded by the Cultural Preservation Program maintained by the German Foreign Office.

This website is the responsibility of the subteam of the Museum of Islamic Art.

A detailed documentation of Syria’s cultural heritage provides a basis for recording damage and destruction from the war and for possible future reconstruction measures. The awareness of a common cultural heritage may become an important component for national reconciliation processes in the future.

Open Access Book: Trajectories of State Formation across Fifteenth-Century Islamic West-Asia

Trajectories of state formation across fifteenth-century Islamic West-Asia : Eurasian parallels, connections and divergences
Author: J van Steenbergen
Publisher: Leiden ; Boston : Brill, [2020]
Series: Rulers & elites, vol.18
Ebook ISBN: 9789004431317
Hardback ISBN: 9789004431300

"The concept, practice, institution and appearance of ‘the state’ have been hotly debated ever since the emergence of history as a discipline within modern scholarship. The field of medieval Islamic history, however, has remained aloof from most of these debates. Rather it tends to take for granted the particularity of dynastic trajectories within slow-changing bureaucratic contexts. Trajectories of State Formation promotes a more critical and connected understanding of state formation in the late medieval Sultanates of Cairo and of the Timurid, Turkmen and Ottoman dynasties. Projecting seven case studies onto a broad canvas of European and West-Asian research, this volume presents a trans-dynastic reconstruction, interpretation and illustration of statist trajectories across fifteenth-century Islamic West-Asia.
